ABOUT DAVID
David Duthie is well-known in jazz circles in the Portland Metro area. He is a versatile musician with a strong, driving rhythm who has been described as a “powerhouse” bassist. He’s been playing music most of his life, first playing trumpet, baritone sax, and tuba before settling on the string bass. He’s performed many styles of music in nightclubs, concerts, dances, musical theater, and jazz festivals throughout the Northwest, Palm Springs, and Phoenix. He co-founded one of the Portland Area’s longest-running piano and bass jazz duos, Blackburn and Duthie, performing together since 1984. He currently plays with many other groups and show bands in a wide variety of formats. David also performed over 20 years with the Jim Beatty Jazz Band, and managed and performed on bass and vocals with the folk group The River City Ramblers. He’s played for many years in a duo with pianist Bo Ayars, Liberace’s former conductor. David is also an original member of the Milneburg Jazz Band.
